The families and members of NAMI Greater Wheeling are here to help! We offer understanding to anyone concerned about mental illnesses and the treatment of mental illness.
Mental illnesses are brain disorders that are biologically based medical problems. Untreated, they can cause severe disturbances in thinking, feeling and relating. This results in substantially diminished capacity for dealing with the ordinary demands of life. Mental illness can affect persons of any age and occur in any family. They are not caused by bad parenting and not evidence of weakness of character.
To work to improve the quality of life for mental health consumers and their families through community outreach, public education, advocacy and family support. We are a group of families, professionals and recovering persons with mental illness, dedicated to improving the care, treatment, rehabilitation and status of people with mental illness.
To impact our community through public education, anti-stigma campaigns, support groups, and the Marian House Drop-In Center so all persons affected by mental illness will have the hope of recovery and the resilience to strive for wellness.
